South Road Intersections
March 2010 work commenced to widen the Seaford Road / Patapinda Road intersection onto South Road. The traffic expected to use the turning from South road into Seaford road , to the future Transport Hubs at Seaford Meadows and Seaford , will rise dramatically over the next two years. The danger of the existing filter lanes becoming over full and blocking the traffic flows on South Road has prompted the widening of the intersection to allow extra filter lanes to be installed.
Traffic entering South Road from the Victor / McLaren Vale intersection has for the last few years been very congested to say the least. Alterations to the intersection have also started , and although an underpass was suggested as the best option for good traffic management , we understand at this stage another set of traffic lights is being installed. The traffic lights and road intersection changes are seen ( once again for the south ) as the cheapest option.
A band aid treatment at best , the current option of traffic lights is believed by local residents to be short sighted. The local suburbs are growing at such a rate the current works are not going to provide a good long term good traffic management solution , and could see rework to the intersections being done in the not to distant future.
Having seen the shortsighted cheap option costing the state millions of extra dollars to alter the Southern Expressway , why it is not being done the right way the first time seems to repeat the same old mistakes. It also is becoming a burden to the South Australian tax payer who ends up paying more in the long run.
